How to Care for Your Graphic Tees to Make Them Last
Share
You found the perfect graphic tee — the one that makes you smile every time you put it on. Now let's make sure it stays that way for years to come. Graphic tees require a little extra care compared to plain tees, but it's nothing complicated. Follow these tips and your favorite Hard Target Tee will look great wash after wash.
1. Wash Inside Out, Every Time
This is the single most important thing you can do to protect a graphic tee. Turning your tee inside out before washing reduces friction on the graphic during the wash cycle, which is the main cause of cracking, fading, and peeling. Make it a habit — inside out before it goes in the hamper, and it'll be ready to wash correctly every time.
2. Use Cold Water
Hot water is the enemy of graphic tees. It causes colors to fade faster and can cause the graphic to crack or peel prematurely. Always wash your graphic tees in cold water. Cold water is also better for the environment and your energy bill — so it's a win all around.
3. Choose a Gentle Cycle
The regular or heavy-duty wash cycle is too aggressive for graphic tees. Use the delicate or gentle cycle to minimize agitation. Less agitation means less wear on the graphic and the fabric, which means your tee stays looking newer for longer.
4. Skip the Dryer (or Use Low Heat)
High heat from the dryer is the second biggest threat to your graphic tee's longevity. The best option is to air dry your tees by laying them flat or hanging them. If you must use the dryer, use the lowest heat setting available. Never use high heat — it will shrink the fabric and damage the graphic.
5. Don't Wring or Twist
When removing your tee from the wash, don't wring it out. Wringing twists and stretches the fabric and can crack the graphic. Instead, gently press out excess water and then lay flat or hang to dry.
6. Iron Carefully (or Not at All)
If your tee needs ironing, never iron directly on the graphic. Turn the tee inside out and iron on the reverse side, or place a thin cloth between the iron and the graphic. Better yet, hang your tee to dry and smooth out wrinkles by hand while it's still slightly damp — this usually eliminates the need to iron at all.
7. Store Properly
How you store your tees matters too. Fold them neatly rather than cramming them into a drawer, which can cause permanent creases in the graphic. If you hang your tees, use wide hangers to avoid stretching the collar.
8. Treat Stains Immediately
The sooner you treat a stain, the better. Blot (don't rub) the stain with cold water immediately. For tougher stains, apply a small amount of gentle stain remover to the inside of the fabric (not directly on the graphic) and let it sit before washing. Avoid harsh chemicals like bleach, which will destroy both the fabric and the graphic.
The Bottom Line
A little extra care goes a long way. Wash inside out in cold water on a gentle cycle, air dry when possible, and store properly — that's really all it takes to keep your graphic tees looking great for years. Your Hard Target Tee is built to last; treat it right and it will.
